LGBT Cancer Out With Cancer
I was recently contacted by Darryl Mitteldorf, of ‘Out With Cancer Inc.’ An American national non-profit organisation for the LGBT cancer community. Darryl asked me to post links to two websites run by the organisation http://www.outwithcancer.com and http://www.lgbtcancer.com.
OutWithCancer.com is a community portal, a kind of social networking site for LGBT cancer survivers. The site allows you to make contacts, and develop a circle of supportive friends as well as to develop your own profile and blog pages with photos and your experiences of the condition.
Lgbtcancer.com is the organisation’s own blog with articles on a range of issues surrounding LGBT cancer.
All of us are touched by cancer in some way. The disease affects 1 in 3 people in the UK, and is second only to heart disease in the number of people it affects in the USA.
Some studies have shown that LGBT people may be at more risk of contracting certain types of cancers, and that gay men and lesbians are statistically less likely to consult with their general practitioner as often as heterosexual people. For these reasons, the work of organisations like Out With Cancer are vital.
If you or any of your LGBT friends are affected by cancer please visit/recommend these two sites.

You and your readers should know about the National LGBT Cancer Network, the only organization in the country working to make a difference in the incidence of cancer in the LGBT community and the experience of survivors with the health care system. We are educating the community about our increased risks, training health care providers to offer more culturally competent care and collaborating with researchers to develop the critical data needed to make a change. More information is available at http://www.cancer-network.org
The National LGBT Cancer Network is also the only cancer program founded, directed and led by lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgender people. We are from the community and we serve the community.
