A couple of rednecks from ‘Red State‘ meet the Westboro Baptist “Church” at the Saddleback Church’s Civil Forum on the Presidency in Orange County, California last year. Although they are a little difficult to understand I think the satire is wonderful and there are quite a few funny quips from these guys.

In February the UK government took the step of banning Fred Phelps (the founder of the group) and Shirley Phelps-Roper (his daughter) from entering the UK. It follows the announcement that the ‘church’ had planned to picket Queen Mary’s College in Basingstoke for staging The Laramie Project, a play about a man killed for being gay. The BBC said Shirley Phelps-Roper told them the decision would ‘bring great wrath upon your heads’. She also called the government ‘filthy’. Clearly there is some common ground between us gays and the haters after all. Seriously though, I’m glad that the government have taken this chance to show that extremist hateful views are not welcome in the UK.
