The Big Book of Gaydar (Uncut) is the first book ever about Gaydar. As I’m sure you already know, Gaydar.co.uk is an internet phenomenon so expect your friends to be talking about this book very soon!

Gaydar’s slogan is ‘What you want, when you want it’. Ten years after being started by two friends almost as a joke, Gaydar.co.uk has grown into the largest gay community on the internet. The site hosts six million profiles – that’s more than the entire population of Scotland!

The book is written by ‘JockBoy26’. The author remains anonymous other than his Gaydar profile name throughout the book, but this anonymity mirrors that of Gaydar itself where members are known only by their profile names. We do however discover that the author is a thirty-something year old journalist living in London.

The author gained exclusive access to the Gaydar members’ database, so the book is filled with interesting statistics that you might find rather surprising. For instance, care to guess the age of users most likely to have hardcore photos on their profile? 24… 34? – Not even close! Yes, the age is in fact 64 – scary but true.

The Big Book of Gaydar (Uncut) promises to be an ‘insider guide to the pleasures and pitfalls’ of Gaydar. Basically the book is a fantastic guide to anyone who is new to Gaydar, covering everything from choosing a name and filling out your profile to finding Mr. Right(now). Even if you are a Gaydar veteran you might find you’ve committed a number of Gaydar faux-pas that you might want to remedy – age in your username anyone?

Other indispensible information includes how to look good naked, chat-room etiquette, and the UK’s gayest postcodes. The Gaydar addiction quiz is sure to be a feature of any self respecting homos party repertoire.

If for no other reason you should buy this book for its extensive gay glossary. The author devotes the entire final chapter as a ‘Gay to Z of Gaydar’. I’ve been a gayer for almost a quarter of a century but there were a number of terms that were new to me. If like me you don’t know your ‘frottage’ from your ‘grism’ then this book is for you! (That’s not to say you’ll WANT to know :-\ you have been warned!)
